the alchemy in poetry…

i write it out, not to remember you, but to take it away from you

and when
i write this out,
this isn’t to remember you…
it’s to take it away
from you,
i’ll take all these feelings i felt
and i’ll make art,
i’ll make something beautiful,
i’ll make something new

traces of him…

it's been his soul passing through the others

i think
it’s been his soul
passing through the others…
leaving traces of him,
of these memories we’ve yet to live,
leaving breadcrumbs to him
in the ones who were
just lessons,
it’s been breadcrumbs to home…
all of it guiding me as i grow.

i think one of the saddest connections is the rebound relationship…

One of the saddest connections is the rebound relationship.

i think one of the saddest
connections is the rebound relationship…
you’re using one person to try
to unlove another.

so there’s nothing pure or honest
in what that relationship is, or ever will be,
as you’ve carried into it an unhealed bond
to what was.

take time to cleanse, to heal, to renew,
to grow, to become.

new love needs fresh air…

new love needs fresh air

you want to love again… but first,
you have to put to rest the unrest that you
felt with the hands you held before.
you gave that half-love your full attention for
so long, and now your heart needs to take
some space to breathe… new love needs fresh air.

the best of you…

love isn’t about demanding that someone else takes the worst of you

it isn’t always about judgment
when someone else can’t accept how you are,
sometimes it’s about their self-love

sometimes how you are choosing to be
is harmful to others, and it’s nobody else’s
responsibility to just accept that,
it’s your responsibility to grow, and
to treat people better

love isn’t about demanding that
someone else takes the worst of you,
it’s about wanting to give someone
the best of you
