dear soul,
if i had known it would be this hard,
i don’t know if i would’ve come

so achingly
desperate to believe
in myself, in life,
and in anything beautiful that can’t
be crushed by something cruel

a persistent yearning
to feel at home in this skin,
to feel my soul
grounded in these bones

there’s always been an ache in your
back that has felt something like wings…
something inside of you has always
been trying to carry you.

that wild in your heart,
those flowers in your chest,
and the fire in your blood

this untangling of it all
